Most of us believe we have no control over our destiny, but every time we come to a busy city street corner it is us that decides whether we go straight, make a left or a right turn, or simply turn around and go back. We are in control of our destiny. We decide which way to go.

This applies to just about everything we do, that includes our acting careers. One of the biggest myths in showbiz is the belief that some actors are born with some special talent. But after many years of observation and teaching I realize that acting excellence is primarily due to desire and having a very powerful work ethic regardless of any level of natural talent.

After all even some of the most innovative actors like Sean Connery, Elizabeth Taylor, and Anthony Hopkins were somewhat lacking in development early on when they were first getting started. But it was their hard work that made them rise to the top.

My late Grandmother would always say to me; “Son, assume you have no natural talent at all because that way you will work a lot harder to achieve your goals. She was definitely right, I learned then that our destiny is controlled by our willingness to work and stay on course.

So, next time you come to those cross roads, decide to take control of your destiny and commit yourself to work hard toward achieving your goals. After all, who's life is it anyway. Take control!
